Racers heading to Akron for the FirstEnergy All-American Soap Box Derby World Championship Race

Soap Box Derby® Champions and their families will be in Akron, Ohio, for a week of activities leading up to the 83rd FirstEnergy All-American Soap Box Derby at Derby Downs on Saturday, July 24, 2021. Boys and girls between the ages of 7 and 20 have earned the trip to Akron by winning local Soap Box Derby competitions in their gravity-powered race cars. They will travel from cities throughout the United States.

Events take place at Derby Downs 

Tuesday, July 20

8 a.m. - 4 p.m. - Shell Re-attachment/Trial Runs/Photos, etc. for all cars *BY APPOINTMENT AND TUESDAY ONLY*
6 p.m. - 8 p.m. - Badge Trading at West Lawn, lower lot, Derby Downs

Wednesday, July 21

7 a.m. -  Rally Challenge - Stock
9 a.m. - Rally Challenge -  Super Stock
10:30 a.m. - Rally Challenge - Masters
1:30 p.m. - Legacy Division

Thursday, July 22

7 a.m. - AAA Local Challenge - Stock
9:30 a.m. -  AAA Local Challenge - Super Stock
11:30 a.m. -  AAA Local Challenge - Masters
2 p.m. - All-Star Race - Stock, Super Stock, Masters 

Friday, July 23

Alignment - Wheel Selection - Weigh-In *ALL CHAMPS at Topside

8 a.m. - Local Masters
9 a.m. - Rally Masters
10 a.m. - Local Super Stock 
11 a.m. - Rally Super Stock

Saturday, July 24

7 - 7:30 a.m. - Champ and Car Handler Check-In
8 a.m. - Opening Ceremonies 
8:30 a.m. - First Heat of the 83rd FirstEnergy All-American Soap Box Derby 
5 p.m. - Awards Ceremony, Derby Downs

Each day’s activities will provide a range of opportunities to photograph or videotape boys and girls as they arrive in Akron, work on their race cars and experience the excitement of competing on the world-famous Derby Downs track. Interviews can be arranged with participants, their families and with officials of the FirstEnergy All-American Soap Box Derby organization.

Derby Downs is at 789 Derby Downs Drive, Akron, Ohio, 44306 — and is located along George Washington Boulevard, just north of Rt. 224 in the southeast area of Akron. It is adjacent to Akron Fulton Airport and the Rubber Bowl.
